Happy Easter! I hope you had a blessed weekend with the family. This Sunday, let’s talk about bees. See, for all they do for us, bees don’t get enough love. If every bee ceased to exist tomorrow, the entire food ecosystem as we know it would collapse. We’d be in real trouble trying to figure out how to pollinate the world.
Here are some interesting facts about bees you might not have heard before:
Bees make some of the most nutritious and naturally healing products in the world. Honey. Propolis. Pollen. Bee Bread. Royal Jelly. We don’t thank them enough.
Bees remember every flower they’ve ever visited. They’ve got incredible memory. They will remember if you intentionally attack them.
Just like us, they can’t help but live life extremely caffeinated. When bees eat the nectar of Coffea and Citrus their memory gets supercharged 3x.
A single bee produces only half a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
The sound bees make from flapping their tiny wings have been used as therapy for ages. In Slovenia, therapeutic beehives are installed around the country to aid with relieving stress and anxiety.
Bees communicate with each other by dancing. It’s how they signal where the best flowers are.
Bees are divine. The Egyptians believe they were created from the tears of Ra, their Sun God.
In Egyptian mythology the tears of the Sun God ‘Ra’ were transformed into bees on their fall to earth, providing liquid gold honey to Ra’s followers. Evidence suggests that ancient Egyptians were the first beekeepers. Manchester Museum holds one of Europe’s most significant collections of Egyptian artefacts. This design replicates hieroglyphs depicting beekeeping, with the Queen Bee elaborately decorated to resemble a sarcophagus. (Bee in the City 2020)
Royal jelly, the substance that transforms worker larvae into queens, is an incredible supplement. How good? Well, this study claims 15 players took royal jelly five times a week for two months alongside their regular training and they grew an average of 1.66 cm in those two months—a statistically significant increase.
Bees visit 2 million flowers just to make a single pound of honey.
The hexagonal shape of the bee’s honeycomb is a miracle. How did they know to shape each cell into a perfect hexagon? It’s the most efficient shape to store the maximum amount of honey with the least amount of wax needed.
Whenever you can, you must save the bees

❋ THE TIME WE SLEPT IN A BEEHIVE IN SLOVENIA
I could hear the buzzing as I lay in bed with my eyes closed. Inside the wall just a couple of feet from our bed, there were thousands of bees. We were spending the night in an adorable little cabin in the mountains of Slovenia, and the cabin was also a thriving beehive.
Slovenia is serious about their bees—and with good reason, too. Bees are essential for pollination, and they are necessary for ecosystems to function. In other words, without bees, our food sources and ecosystems would decline, and that would cause massive issues with our survival. This is why Slovenia has named their native bee, the Carniolan Bee, a protected species. Beekeeping is an old tradition in Slovenia, and there are roughly 10,000 beekeepers throughout the country. When exploring Slovenia, you will no doubt come across an array of brightly painted beehive panels, both in towns and in the countryside, as well as plenty of bee-themed adventures.
