August is peak summer. It’s one of the best times in the year to enjoy perfectly ripe fruit under the glorious sun. There’s just something about eating fruit outside that hits different. Take a golden kiwi with you on a walk. Eat mangoes on your porch. Drown yourself in watermelon after a long day. Share a peach cobbler alfresco on a weekend evening. Snack on perfectly ripe grapes. Fresh fruit nourishes your mind, body and soul.
California Fig
Figs are the most underrated fruit in the world. It’s incredible how much depth a fig has. They’re jammy, sweet and amazing paired with some full fat yogurt or goat cheese.
Honeydew
Honeydews are ONLY amazing when perfectly ripe. It just doesn’t hit otherwise. If there’s a month in the year where you eat honeydew, it’s August. The perfect honeydew is a beautiful pastel green that glistens in the sun. Essential to your summer salad.
Juicy Mango
The late summer mango is incredible. It’s one of those fruits that you absolutely don’t mind making a mess with. You know you’re going to get mango juice dripping down your arms and even on your clothes but you don’t care. It’s just that good.
Grapes
The perfect summer snack. Crisp crunch, sweet aftertaste. Best served cold and enjoyed late afternoon. You’ll definitely eat a dozen more than you planned for, but that’s okay. It’s summer.
Cherries
The best tasting Vitamin C supplement on the planet. August gives some of the darkest, sweetest cherries that are packed full of flavor. Essential.
Santa Rosa Plum
You’re either going to start baking with plum all the time or you’re going to enjoy just how tart it is on its own, especially this time of year. Underrated.
Watermelon
THE definition of eating your hydration this summer. Nothing hits like a bite of juicy watermelon after a long day in the sun. Sprinkle some sea salt over and enjoy. It’s truly a watermelon summer.
Nectarine
Another excellent candidate for your summer salads or to bake into your tarts. Incredibly aromatic. Cleanses your palate. Feels like a breath of fresh air.
Summer Peach
August peaches are wonderfully aromatic and best enjoyed raw. You can also grill them if you want to switch things up.
Blackberry
Rich in antioxidants. Incredible taste. Blackberries are best enjoyed in prime August. Either have them on their own or use them as the star ingredient in pies or make something beautiful like a berry basque cheesecake compote!
Pineapple
A beautifully ripe pineapple is perfect hydration for those with a sweet tooth. It’s time to bromelain-maxx as you relax and wind down after another glorious day of summer.
Golden Kiwi
If it’s not golden I don’t want it. Once you’ve had golden kiwis, the green ones just don’t compare. Always eat with the skin on!

How Blessed
Never forget how blessed we are
Jeremy says: 'This was on the menu at Bibendum when I first started cooking there and has remained a constant companion ever since. The recipe remains pretty loyal to the original Elizabeth David version. St Emilion is known not just for wine but also for macarons, which here are steeped in cognac and set into both the top and bottom of an extraordinary cake that is the very essence of chocolate – rich, elegant and surprisingly light. I use Amaretti di Saronno macarons, dried fully, which I buy from the few surviving Italian shops in Soho such as I Camisa & Son and Lina Stores, or the Algerian Coffee Stores, or buy online, and with more than just a scent of bitter almonds from the kernels of apricots they are a perfect foil for cognac and chocolate. PS: As a good-quality brandy or rum for that matter becomes more costly, a thought is to make use of amontillado, a sherry that delights with chocolate. The result is most pleasing.'

Where once we ate fruit for our sugar we now eat the industrialized and processed “sugar” of modernity. Great post!
I am now planting for my Fall garden. I had excellent production earlier this Spring and Summer from my fig and peach trees.
