#148 Upgrades to Improve Your Life
Investing in your health is the greatest investment in the world
The best gift is the gift of health. Here are 10 upgrades to improve the quality of your life IMMEDIATELY.
Plastic cutting board → Wooden cutting board
Every time you cut with plastic, you're injecting plastic particles into your food. Your body will thank you for throwing your plastic cutting boards out and switching to a good wooden cutting board. Read this post below for more alternative materials that are actually healthy for you:
Improve the lighting in your immediate environment
Light is a pillar of health yet most people don't pay enough attention to it. Struggle to get deep restful sleep? Swap the harsh blue LEDs for tiny incandescents for cozier evenings. You’ll feel better almost immediately.
Get quality seasonings
Replace all your seasonings with quality herbs and spices that come in glass bottles. Avoid general "all purpose" seasonings. They're poor quality and you really don’t know what goes into them. Get as single ingredient as you can without microplastics.
4. Start getting more massages
You need to be engaging in deep leisure. Either get a massage gun or a bi-weekly massage subscription. If you go hard (physically & mentally), it's a must to disconnect and what's more relaxing than a great massage? Ultimate stress lowering life hack. Magnesium chloride topically post-massage also helps.
5. Improve your water game
Water is as important as food. How is the quality of your drinking water? Either get the best filtration system and remineralize with electrolytes, or get spring water delivered to you. Drinking quality water is a huge life upgrade. This is true hydration.
Supermarket bread → Local bakery
Stop getting pre-sliced bread that lasts for a month. Bread was never meant to last that long. Start being a regular at your local bakery. Enjoy good sourdough that’s baked fresh daily. Pain au chocolat as a treat on the weekends. You deserve it.
Get targeted supplementation
Switch from generic multivitamins and oxidized fish oil pills to targeted supplementation that moves the needle. Analyze your diet and fill in the gaps with quality. Cold-pressed black seed oil as natural prophylaxis. Oral and topical magnesium.
Upgrade your wardrobe game
Wearing plastic feels disgusting. Polyester clothing leaches microplastics into your skin. Wear natural materials as much as you possibly can, or at the very least wear natural materials for your innerwear.
organic cotton underwear
cotton, bamboo, wool socks
organic cotton tees
tailored linen shorts (especially for summer)
linen shirts
donate inner layer polyester pieces away
The things you wear affect your health more than you think
Get more herbal tea
Herbal teas are one of the best things you can drink to improve your general health, and also as light medication whenever you're feeling under the weather Try everything out. Dandelion root. Ginger. Nettle. Hibiscus. Always get whole leaves and steep deeply.
Quality pantry additions
To end this piece, here are some general pantry additions that would move the needle:
stainless steel kettle instead of plastic stainless steel
cast iron / stainless steel pans instead of teflon
stainless steel mechanical juice press
glass blender
quality Japanese knives
glass tupperware
glass water dispensers
Beeswax candles
Beeswax candles smell like heaven

❋ CRANBERRY BRIE FOCACCIA BREAD
My love for THIS exact bread runs deep. First, the flavor combination is awesome. The cranberries are tart, the cheese is melty and creamy, the rosemary is strong and fresh. It looks pretty for the season and if you take it to a party you will be the most popular!
AND. Just FYI – don’t flip your lid at the amount of olive oil that is necessary to make this bread divine. I did a double take too, but TRUST ME it is necessary for that slightly crunchy outside and buttery fluffy inside.
Seriously, who doesn’t want a crunchy outside and fluffy inside?!
This easy compound butter brings the brawny flavors of Worcestershire sauce, thyme and garlic to just about anything. Use it on steak, chicken, grilled corn on the cob or French bread — whatever you think would benefit from its intensity. Make sure to let it soften a bit before serving. Once it’s soft and spreadable, you may just want to slather it on with abandon.
❋ SOURDOUGH MINI CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFINS
There will always be something nostalgic about opening those convenient single-serve pouches of mini muffins, but you’ll quickly forget about them once you taste how fluffy, moist and chocolatey this homemade sourdough version!
Made with wholesome, pantry staple ingredients, these Sourdough Mini Chocolate Chip Muffins stay moist for days and are the perfect grab-and-go snack for little hands!
Chocolate chip is my family’s favorite flavor, but the base recipe is versatile for all of your favorite flavor options like banana, apple, blueberry, mixed berry, sprinkles, you name it.
Once you taste this homemade Lil Bites copycat, you’ll never go back to the store-bought ones.
